SUNY New Paltz – Sojourner Truth Library & Cafe
The Sojourner Truth Library is located on the campus of Suny New Paltz College. The library is a three story 90,000 sf facility built in 1969 which houses 500,000+ books & bound periodicals, 800+ journal subscriptions, 1 million pieces of microform and is a partial depository of U.S. Government & New York State documents.
Meyer Contracting Corporation completed a 4 phase renovation of the 32,000 sf main floor and select improvements on the Concourse and Ground floors. The Phase 3 renovations included a 1,500 sf Librarians circulation desk, new staff offices and lounge area, 2 conference/lecture rooms, 12 group study rooms, a 24 hour late night study room open to all students, a new façade to improve natural lighting along with views of the Shawangunk mountains and a complete overhaul of the building management/life safety systems. Phase 4 renovations to the Concourse and Ground floors included a new private faculty study room, an enlarged restricted special collections area and many miscellaneous repairs to the existing spaces.
Also included in the renovation was a new full service Peet’s Brew Café designed by Dembling + Dembling Architects, P.C. The café replaced the existing, out dated café that was in dire need of remodeling. Peet’s Brew Café is a full service facility with ample seating and views of the library’s art gallery. The Café is open to all faculty and students and is now a wonderful place to relax or grab a coffee on the way to a late night study session.
